How Ecologi is helping to solve the climate crisis
Ecologi may not be a name you are familiar with, but familiarising yourself with the company is highly recommended, as their marketplace within proactive climate action is developing at a rapid pace.
The company was initially founded by a group of environmentalists in Bristol, who were frustrated with the lack of accessible contributions normal people could make to the climate problem. This was late 2018, and since then in a relatively short period of time the company has allowed individuals, as well as companies like ourselves, the ability to offer a meaningful way to act to the problem.
With our collective home being turned upside down, we all know by now that the problem is potentially still preventable, but it’s not going to save itself. So, it is up to all of us to help solve it, by reducing our carbon footprint and restoring nature.
Part of their IP is “Climate solutions which already exist could avoid or remove billions of tonnes of emissions, as well as restoring nature and positively restoring society. What if the billions of us who care about climate change became empowered to make that change?” This is our opportunity.
Kymin have been part of the Ecologi collective for over a year now, and by directly funding climate change projects, which help compensate for our own carbon footprint, we are engaging proactively in a worthwhile scheme that will help alter the future for the good of the planet.
As of May 2023 there are currently over 42,000 Ecologi members contributing to this worthwhile course, which will help steer the globes climate crisis back in the right direction. With over 64.7 million trees funded! and over 2.6 million Tonnes of CO2e avoided.
As a company, our own personal climate contributions equate to an ever growing “excuse the pun” 1,634 trees funded so far and over 114 tonnes of CO2e avoided, - this is equivalent to 342 metres2 of sea ice saved, or 87 long haul flights avoided. We feel it great that we can clearly see our own individual contribution and what that means directly.

The Ecologi ethos can be split into four sectors as follows.
Calculate
Ecologi Zero lets you easily calculate your carbon footprint for free. It connects seamlessly with Xero accounting software, and requires no expertise or experience.
Reduce
Once you’ve managed your emissions, you can start bringing them down. Identify your hotspots using your Ecologi Zero dashboard and set goals to reduce them.
Fund
Funding climate action to protect our planet is vital to keeping global warming below 2°C.
Share
Shout your good work from the rooftops. Share your impact using your business profile, dashboard and the badges you’ve earned along the way.
Money for good
If you’re concerned about climate change, what normally comes to mind are things like flying less, eating a plant based diet and recycling more. We want to show the world that we can contribute significantly beyond our own carbon footprints by directly funding climate solutions.
Paying to remove carbon from the atmosphere will buy us crucial time as we endeavour to live more sustainably.
Capacity for change
The solutions are out there. There is enough capacity of these climate opportunities for the world to meet its very ambitious target of limiting warming to 1.5C. The missing element is funding.
As we support projects on a massive scale, the price to remove a tonne of CO2 is likely to fluctuate. But in creating this demand we will be responsible for accelerating the green economy, where innovation and efficiencies will bring costs down.
Ensuring quality
It’s imperative the projects that are being supported are doing what they are stating. Carbon offsets offer a way of converting money in to quantifiable reductions in greenhouse gases. A project’s quality comes from its robustness of planning, monitoring and verification.
This burden of responsibility is left to independent certifications, such as Gold Standard, that only allow a project to be funded if they continue to work to an exceptional quality.
Carbon avoidance
At Ecologi they use the money to support a broad range of projects that are able to evidence that they are reducing or avoiding greenhouse gas emissions.
